Serendipity
This is where I found myself on Saturday! I have not been in eons and decided on the spur of the moment to make a visit. I am so glad I did. My daughter and I had a grand time and I met all sorts of people, new ones and old friends too! It is a bustling place in an old brewery building with lots of nooks and crannies and tunnels and cavernous rooms. There you can find farmers, artists, bakers, musicians and candlestick makers, just to mention a few of the myriad stalls to browse through. My visits to the market always start with a freshly cooked hot cinnamon bun and a fragrant Americano coffee. Yum.
But this time, on my way to cinnamon heaven I was distracted by a charming and talented writer/artist, Mark Oakley.
How could I not have known about his books and work? He has published a series called Thieves and Kings and is about to come out with the sixth installment of the story. The seventh will complete it. They were originally published as series of comic books but have been redone in proper book fashion. A cross between reading a comic and a novel because interspersed through out the book are illustrated pages of copy. Very different! I bought the first book, and was gifted the second (thanks!) and I am enjoying it immensely, a fairytale/adventure story for all ages.
The illustrations are what captivate me. So gorgeous. Also the amount of work that has been poured into this work is amazing! You can pop over and learn more about Mark and his adventures at iBox Publishing, his site. Scroll down to read his entertaining blog:) He also draws a scifi comic strip called StarDrop, pop in and catch the latest installment.
