It was a big job, my daughter is a pack rat like me:) She gets overwhelmed and doesn't know where to start. Then when she does start, she gets interested in the things she's supposed to be clearing out and 30 minutes later, she's got her nose in a book, magazine, photos, souvenirs, etc. Me too, but I am getting much better!
So, I came across this book by Enid Blyton and happy memories came flooding back.
My grandparents lived in Aberdeen, Scotland. When I was 9 years old I spent the entire summer with them in their house on Broomhill Road. My grandfather used to be a sea captain and when he retired, he became a man of the soil. He created the most extraordinary garden. Flowers, vegetables, fruit, berries, roses...
At the back of their home was a floor to ceiling glassed-in sun room that ran the length of the house. The house was built on a slope so it was on the second story and there were mossy stone stairs down to the garden. On one side of the sun room, deep pink climbing roses covered the entire surface. All you could see were leaves and petals.
I used to snuggle into a huge yellow overstuffed chair that was in this corner and read The Castle of Adventure. I 'd be bathed in a green and pink sun dappled glow as the sun shone through roses. It was my favourite corner. I LOVED that book, the adventures of Jack, Kiki his parrot, Lucy -Ann, Dinah and Philip. They were always on their own and having wonderful picnics on the hillsides with thermos of tea, biscuits, cheese, and wild and woolly adventures. In this book they met up with Tassie the gypsy girl and her pet fox.The book was dated 1946 and belonged to the son of a neighbor of theirs who gave it to me to enjoy. I was completely besotted with it.
My grandmother loved to cook and would bring me plates of lemon meringue pie or bowls of strawberries or warm rowies to munch on as I read away in my little corner. It was a heavenly time and I was spoiled rotten:))
I gave this book to my daughter to read when she was younger and she loved it as much as I did and went on to read the whole series.

Another snowy day! Wow, it keeps on coming. What a remarkable winter we've had. Glad to see it go.
The good thing about snow this time of year is that it doesn't last long. It does make me want to eat comfort food though. I look forward to "salad" weather. I just had some turkey soup for supper. I love having a pot of something on hand. Makes it so easy when you don't feel like cooking and it is frosty outside. I think I've got some cream of broccoli soup in the freezer too.
My daughter is sick, sniffling and asthma kicking in now. Most of the kids on the trip have come down with something. It's not surprising. Traveling is exhausting, especially when you are seeing a lot in a short time. I like to go into "training" mode before I travel. I try to make sure my immune system is strong and well rested and I am in good physical shape. That way it's easier to bounce back from jet lag and the ups and downs of life on the road. I tried to gently guide her towards that before she left, but you know, what do moms know abut anything! Oh well....
In other news, DancingMooney has done a wee feature on me in her blog:)) Thanks Janell.
I have finally had some time to paint and this is what I came up with today! It is always a surprise to see what will come out of my paintbrush. I am starting to get Spring Fever:)
Grey Garden Cat available here.
Life has been VERY HECTIC.
Sun is out and although it's chilly, there is a Springlike quality to the air:))
My daughter is in Italy, today they are in Rome, she flies home on Monday.
I am so excited for her, can hardly wait to hear her tales.
Maple syrup season is here!
I just watched Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring. It is a Korean film, lovely.
Have a great weekend.
My daughter is leaving on Monday night for a high school trip to Italy for a week. I certainly did not want to have the flight canceled or envision driving on the highway to the airport. So, for now, it looks good.
They are flying to Milan, taking a bus to Venice and from there will visit, Pisa, Florence and Rome. They will be at Vatican city on Easter Sunday! How exciting . My daughter will also be spending her 18th birthday in Venice!!! Can you imagine. How wonderful for her. She worked really hard this past summer saving every penny for this trip. I am proud of her. The cool thing is that I was in Venice when I was 18 on a high school trip.
I am off to make a cup of chai tea and then in an hour or so I see shoveling snow in my future!
These bright sunflowers are for sale here:)
My daughter got her driver's license today! Hooray and Oh No! I'll have to bite my tongue when I drive with her.
Nervous Nellie = me
We are scheduled to have a big night of freezing rain. The weather forecaster was calling freezing rain the mosquito of weather systems. Pesky and potentially dangerous. I wonder what a snow storm is called?
I have to go make some supper and then out for some exercise before the mosquito descends:)
This little painting is available here.
I was tagged by Beedazzles to do a 7 things meme. I usually don't do them but then I thought, not fair because I love reading them and it's fun to learn random facts about people. So here goes.
1. I have no first cousins nor aunts and uncles, both of my parents are only children.
2. I lived in Bermuda for almost a year.
3. Peach fuzz makes my skin crawl! I cannot hold a peach without cringing. Like scraping a nail across a chalkboard feeling.I love peaches to eat but they have to be peeled, preferably by someone else:)
4.I have naturally curly hair
5.Prince Andrew once said to me, "So nice to see you here..."
6. I'm not afraid to speak in front of a crowd.
7. I believe our thoughts have power:)
Anyone else game to do this?
