I HAVE to address my lawn. In the backyard there are huge patches of dirt with no grass. My wonderful female dog Sequoia's legacy. There is something in their pee that kills the grass and as a result, my lawn looks polka-dotted.
I have to get bags of soil and seeds and start on that. This is the time, before it gets too warm and while there is lots of rain.
No school today so H and I are off to check out a pair of "silver prom" shoes she found. Honestly, I would rather she save her money and go on a trip! We then have to take her dress in to a seamstress to be altered.
Home to do some painting and then.....
Later today I have a massage booked!!! A gift from a friend. It's at the Northumberland College and will be done by a graduating student. What a great deal. These students need practical experience so the massages are offered at a bargain price. My friend swears by them. Early in the year you can buy 2 for the price of one certificates which makes the price REALLY affordable. I have not had a massage for years.

My daughter and I had a great morning on Saturday. We headed to a bead shop to pick up supplies for her new venture..... jewelery making ! She's opened an etsy account and wants to try her hand at creating baubles. Good for her! Be prepared for some jewellery pictures soon:) We poked about some very cool shops and then stopped for lunch at the Paper Chase. A cozy eatery that sits above a busy magazine/newsagent store.
Here she is reading the Coast as we wait for our lunch.
In the summer those windows are all rolled up a la garage door style. Very nifty.
Lunch arrived and it was DELICIOUS!
Avocado melts. We shared a carrot cake with cream cheese frosting for dessert.
We had such a nice time, I want to do it again soon.
Last night I bought some goodies for it but couldn't resist breaking into them and making myself a delicious supper!!
Wonderful:)
The person that makes that 100th sale will get a free bonus print from me as a thank you:)
I turn my back and POW! Monty is up in a tree. "Hey, I can see Spain from here"
I have just finished this painting and now plan to head out on a walk to soak up this wonderful weather.
I can hear two squirrels outside, chattering and chittering and now see that they are chasing each other
along the branches. Our house is on a bit of a slope and sometimes it feels as though we live in a tree house.
Some sad news. An old neighbor of ours has passed away. His family has lived next to us since I was a little girl, and he and his wife are two of my mum's oldest friends. He was a wonderful man from an extraordinary family. His great grandfather was a slave. His sister was famous opera singer, his father was the first black man to graduate from Acadia University and he himself was an educator, singer and tireless proponent of tolerance and the importance of helping others.
I spent many happy hours at their house growing up. Their daughter was my best friend and she had bunk beds in her room and as a consequence, I was there ALL the time. What fun. Her parents were a mixed race couple and in those days that was unheard of but of course to me, I had no idea, I thought it was normal. We had such great times. I have lots of great stories to tell.
When H was younger, I was a Girl Guide leader and had Lorne in to talk to the girls about Martin Luther King Day and the relevance of what Martin spoke about. Lorne gave a wonderful talk about his life, family and the barriers and the people who make a difference and about how we should all be "door openers". Everyone left a bit wiser and hopefully more aware of how our actions impact other people.
The last time I saw Lorne was Christmas Eve dinner at my Mom's house. The funeral will be Saturday at the Rock Church. His own parish church will be unable to hold the crowds.
Starry Night Pals available HERE:)
This is one from that beautiful bouquet I received last week.
I put them in a crystal vase that belonged to my grandmother.
She had a tidy, old fashioned parlour in the front of her house that had a bow window.
In the middle of that bow there was a small table, and on it she kept that vase,
always filled with roses from her garden.
It was something pretty for the people who passed by to see if they happened to peep into
her window.
The door to that room was always kept shut because it was the GOOD parlour but when you walked in, the fragrance was intoxicating.
I used to go in there just to sit and smell:).
To this day, the smell of roses reminds me of my grandparents.
Actually, I've just made this available as a print for sale in my shop:)
I've been featured in IndieQuarter! That was a nice surprise:)
